Mission
Statement
OnPoint identifies and assists at-risk youth
and provides them with academic, career, and financial counseling
to encourage the completion of high school and the pursuit of
a successful post-secondary education.
We will uphold the highest social and academic
standards to inspire the youth of today to make responsible
choices that will empower their communities for years to come.
The
Beginning
New Beginning is a "not
for profit" organization to be publicly and privately funded
through, donations, grants, and fundraisers.
Founded by Anthony L. Franklin, New Beginning was created
to inspire and facilitate the undeserved, the high risk, youth
offenders to be strong in academic, spiritual, psychological,
and physical growth.
One of New Beginning's main goal is to offer comprehensive
and professional career counseling to the youth and their parent
of all backgrounds, ethnicities and religions. We do this with
the realization that an individual's understanding directly
affects the decision-making process. Today's youth must be goal
driven, and armed only with a plan. They must realize that their
Future Begins Now.
New Beginning and Parentpoints have expanded
upon it ability to meet its goals and objectives by partnering
under the Power of One to address parent involvement.
Parent points was founded by Daron Barker who developed the
Points Method™ Parenting System devised to promotes consistency
and positive beneficial parenting practices which in turn encourage
and reinforce responsible child behavior. Parentpoints
is a Georgia based business that provides parenting tools, workshops,
and seminars designed to promote consistency and positive beneficial
parenting practices, which will encourage and reinforce responsible
child behavior.
Making
A Difference
Annually, OnPoint's goal is to assist 200 at-risk/disadvantaged
youth in preparing for post-secondary education. OnPoint focuses
on removing the at-risk/disadvantaged label that has been placed
on the participants in the program. The most important objective
is that these at-risk students receive a post-secondary education.
The youth in this program have been well prepared by SAT/ACT
preparation, tutoring (on a as needed basis), leadership workshops,
exposure to travel outside of their environment, and preparation
for the post-secondary experience. Our 200 recipients will no
longer carry the at-risk or disadvantaged title. With proper
funding the Student Success Initiative will
be able to immediately and effectively remove the at-risk label
from many more youth.
The
Parenting Crisis
“Many parents are frustrated with the effects of working,
raising children, planning for a future, dealing with changing
technology and a host of other variables that impact the family
in today’s society,” says Barker. “Parents
have forgotten the basics, or they have simply been convinced
they are inadequate and incapable of getting the job done. Hence,
the responsibility of training and guiding the child becomes
everybody else’s responsibility. That is why schools are
suffering. Instead of teaching academics, they have to teach
what used to be taught at home.”
With the Parent Success Initiative
we will be able to provide workshops, seminars, and tools to
assist parents in maximizing the potential that exist at any
given time to make a lasting and positive impact upon the quality
of theirs and their children's lives thereby strengthening OnPoint's
mission to immediately and effectively remove the at-risk label
from many more youth.
A
Brighter Future
With the OnPoint-OnCampus-OnTime™
program, we will be able to increase awareness to the need of
preparing our at-risk/disadvantaged youth for post-secondary
education. OnPoint-OnCampus-OnTime™
is collaboration between collegiate greek letter organizations
and Parentpoints to positively enhance the education, relationships
and lives of parents, children and community leaders.
This proposed collaboration
is devised to provide products and services through various
graduate and undergraduate chapters of established community
service organizations. Currently, this initiative is working
with Zeta Phi Beta and Delta Sigma Theta in the state of Arkansas
by conducting workshop to positively impact the family unit
and reverse the negative trends contributing to the breakdown
of the family structure.
We will continue to grow
and expand OPSSC programs by partering with groups across the
country.
