| Selection
Process-
| OnPoint
will contact school counselors to make them
aware of our programs. We will also utilize
school counselors to try and isolate potential
candidates for the program, whom once in place
will be interviewed by the OnPoint
staff. The staff will also assess where the
candidates' strengths and weaknesses lie in
order to develop an individualized plan of
action that will best exploit and showcase
the true talent of the student.
High school participants
will be required to attend a pre-determined
amount of development sessions in the areas
of goal setting and personal finance. They
will also be required to complete a preset
number of volunteer hours. |
| High
School Program -
At the high
school level, OnPoint provides different
assistance to freshmen and sophmore students
than it does to juniors and seniors as they
have distinct needs. Freshmen and sophmore students
are at the beginning stages of secondary education,
and therefore more focus can be placed on making
sure that they are enrolled in the proper courses
to assist them in pursuing post-secondary education.
More emphasis can be placed on making sure good
grades are being made and maintained through
tracking of each students' progress and tutoring
them based on need. Also since students at this
grade level are not allocated college visitation
days by their high schools, OnPoint will
utilize teacher workdays to plan college visitation
for these students.
Junior and seniors will be more focused on choosing
the college of their choice and making frequent
college visitation trips. Also, entrance exam
preparation, assistance with obtaining information
on financial aid and scholarships will be just
a few of the projects that will be conducted
for the upperclassmen. The program will also
obtain the latest college applications and literature
and assist students with the completion of the
admissions process.
All participants will take part
in the mentor program in which they will be
assigned a mentor whom will serve as a counselor
and will assist the student in making sound
decisions inside and outside of the classroom.
Tutoring sessions will be made available to
every student. Career exploration will be done
to educate students on particular careers in
which they may have an interest. This will consist
of a job-shadowing program where students are
introduced to individuals working in their fields
of interest and have the opportunity to get
a first-hand look at what the careers in those
fields will truly have to offer. |

Elementary & Middle School Program -
OnPoint
at the elementary and middle school levels
focuses more on self-esteem building and tutorial
services, with concentration on subjects in
which students perform poorly on End of Grade
(EOG) testing. These programs will be staffed
by volunteers to come into the schools during
school days and help specific students strengthen
in their academic performance and give them
opportunities to spend one-on-one time with
the child to help build self-esteem, assist
with goal setting, and help develop respect
for others. |
